The Forest Oak Middle School project blends new construction, significant interior renovations, and strategic site improvements. The scope includes the addition of a new three-story academic facility housing classrooms, science labs, fine arts spaces, CTE labs, and a new media center. Work within the existing building features major interior renovations throughout, including corridor upgrades and enhancements to band, orchestra, and choir areas. A new secured front entry vestibule will improve campus safety and access control. The project also delivers life cycle upgrades to core building systems, including mechanical. electrical, plumbing, technology, and security infrastructure. Exterior improvements include upgrades to the building envelope, such as new roofing and window replacement. Site work encompasses the creation of a secure outdoor learning courtyard, the extension of the existing fire lane, replacement of the track, and development of a new parking area south of Pecos St. to improve traffic circulation. A temporary portable classroom village installed in summer 2024 to allow the campus to remain operational during construction will be removed upon completion of the project.
The 3-level Addition progress continues with strong momentum; exterior masonry, window framing, and glass installation are underway. Interior work has advanced to drywall installation.
The 3-level Addition’s exterior masonry, window frame installation, and decking has begun. Meanwhile, the interior 3 floors are in varying stages of framing and MEP rough-ins. The renovations on the southern side of the building are nearly complete, pending ceiling closure. Furniture installation and final move-in is scheduled to follow shortly thereafter.
Progress in the new building addition continues, the first & second floor framing is complete and in-wall MEP and overhead rough-in is underway. The third floor slab has been poured and exterior framing & sheathing are nearly complete.
Demolition is complete and overhead MEP installation is in progress. Interior framing activities have also begun and continue to advance. On the new building addition, the structure has been topped out, marking a major milestone. First-floor framing and exterior sheathing are underway. The second floor slab has been poured, and third-floor decking is currently in progress.
Staff and students are scheduled to return to Phase 3 following winter break. Phase 4 work is set to begin at the start of winter break and construction of the addition remains ongoing, with steel erection continuing and second-floor decking underway.
Phase 3 remains on schedule for early December completion, with final pain, flooring, and ceiling finishes underway. FF&E delivery and installation are set to begin soon. The new addition is also progressing well, with steel erection underway as construction moves forward.
Overhead MEP systems & in-wall rough-ins are complete, and all new wall framing is finished. Window installation & drywall are done and painting is expected to wrap up soon. The ceiling grid is in place, lighting and HVAC ductwork are being routed. Meanwhile, the addition’s foundation has been poured and structural steel is being prepped for erection.
The boys’ and girls’ locker rooms have passed final inspections. Classroom punch list items are being completed. Construction on the next phase is moving forward with framing in place, while site and foundation work are scheduled to wrap up by the end of the month.
Phase 1 classrooms were turned over to FWISD prior to the start of school. Locker room renovations are underway and expected to finish in August. Site work, including the bus lane and front entrance sidewalks, are complete. Foundation work for the new addition continues.
